Just like a gingernut, only creamy....

There's nothing like being far away for a long period of time, then to find that one place that makes you feel at home.

The Kiwis have discovered our new shire, aka Bourke Street Bakery. 

Bourke Street Bakery is a humble bakery that was the first of what is now a successful franchise, offering delicious, high quality baked goods such as pies, sausage rolls, croissants, and their world-famous Ginger Creme Brûlée. Their reputation remains unstaggering, with a near perfect rating on various food websites, and sworn reviews across the board. I needed to see what all the fuss was about, and try get this Brûlée for myself...

Today I ate the Ginger Creme Brûlée

Just look - isn't this brûlée so beautiful, torched to orange perfection it looked too good to leave on the plate; so much self-control it took to not dig into this straight away!

Verdict? Hands down - the best creme brûlée I've had in a very long time. It's rich, dense, creamy, very smooth and full-bodied with flavour, better than any brûlée I've had at a restaurant. If was very tempting to grab another one, but this little hobbit resisted another day!!

Today I ate the Bacon, Gruyere and Leek Quiche

Every other quiche crumbles in comparison! It was light, fluffy, pastry was perfect, and the Gruyere balanced so nicely with the bacon and leek.

Today I ate a Pork & Fennel sausage roll

We came too early to get a pie today (cries!) but luckily they had sausage rolls. The humble meat pie and meat rolls are a staple in New Zealand, in fact it's probably on every Kiwi's top 10 list of guilty pleasure foods we enjoy the most. I hadn't had one since I left New Zealand nearly a year ago, so imagine my excitement to finally sink my teeth into one!

But honestly!! This could give the bakeries in New Zealand a run for their money!!

Today I finished off with a BSB croissant  

Enough rich creamy food for the day, we needed something light with a bit of crisp. Cue the croissant. It was just an unassuming perfect piece of pastry. No more no less. Delicious.

Thank you Bourke Street Bakery for the feels... I'm now officially homesick! You will see me again soon for sure!
