ORANGE BLOSSOM HOTCAKES @ Temperance Society - Hughsdale, Melbourne, AUS

Morning fellow foodies.

South Melbourne was not a pretty sight this morning. There was rain (lots of rain!) and a shower of hail, none of it was mentioned in the forecast.

And yes - we got caught in all of it.

Moral of the story: don't ever trust the weather forecast and ALWAYS bring a coat and umbrella if travelling far.

Anyway, dripping jeans and soaked socks aside let's get down have some temperance.

temperance noun
def:
1. moderation in action, thought, or feeling (restraint)
2. habitual moderation in the indulgence of the appetites or passions

With Orange Blossom Hotcakes and mouth-watering Chilli Scrambled Eggs, it is interesting that a cafe boasting enticing meals would have temperance in the name, for their menu encourages anything but. Their menu options include dishes like Acai Powerbowls, Peanut Butter Chia Pudding, and Buddha Bowls are indeed healthy, but they're so delicious it is hard to stop after one dish.

But first... coffee!!

The Temperance Society have a reasonable range of coffee for drinkers of every preference. They use MAKER Fine Coffee, a company that produces coffee for espresso and filters.

Today I had a Long Black.

It was exceedingly toasty and way too dark in cocoa flavour for my liking. I prefer fruitier, milder flavours. I think I would've enjoyed my coffee more if I chose a filter instead.

Today Mr. Cardigan ate the Chill Scrambled Eggs.

I had a nibble, they are absolutely amazing. The cherry tomatoes are cooked delicately into the eggs, and they are quite generous with the cheese. I love fried shallots with many Asian dishes, but I'd never had it on eggs before - good call. The shallots and coriander combo is a taste sensation, and the toasty sourdough on the bottom was so fresh and crispy!

Today I had the Orange Blossom Hotcakes.

First of all, let me gush over how gorgeous they look.

GUSH GUSH! <3

Secondly, YUM! I love hotcakes, give me hotcakes over pancakes any day. I loved the medley of the spongy orange blossom cake with the fresh strawberries and creamy mascarpone.

See - I told you it's hard to practice temperance here! This is where diets come to die, oh, the irony haha!

As you can probably tell, I had an amazing time at Temperance Society, minus the rain and hail of course. But whatever the weather, TS have exactly what you need to make you feel good, and no one will judge you if you fail to practice a bit of restraint! *wink*
