Making food and pastries look pretty is a standard Sydney gimmick.
As visual creatures who eat with our eyes, us mere mortals have unfortunately fallen for beauty on the outside rather than within, and some food spots have taken advantage of this fact and have chosen to prioritise style over substance.
Then there are some bloggers, like myself, who believe that the photographic nature of the subject or dish itself is more important than taste itself. Thankfully at Textbook Boulangerie Patisserie, the chefs have hacked this solution and combined the best of both worlds: creating deliciously stylish foods that foodies cannot help but dig in.
And by the way, I don't waste food; a beautiful photograph is worth the extra calories :P
Christmas has come early!
With the advent Christmas around the corner, the sight of lights, red stockings, and Christmas themed foods galore are becoming more common by the day. Case in point, I found this crazy-looking Santa hat (or Mrs. Santa's boob?) "thing" at Textbook Boulangerie Patisserie the other day and it was so cute I just had to have it!
But first, cruffin.
Today My Love ate a Peanut Butter Cruffin
What is a Cruffin? It is a hybrid of a croissant, a popular French pastry, and a muffin. The pastry is made by proving and baking laminated dough in a muffin mould, with the result being a croissant textured pastry but in the shape of a muffin.
I tried my very first Cruffin while I was in Melbourne at Lune Croissanterie, and it was the most delicious thing I'd had (and then I ate the other Lune items and I almost died from disbelief that food could be this good).
Anyways - TBP's version is nothing compared to Lune (sorry, TBP) but it was still pretty damn good. Why? Because peanut butter.
Look at all that peanut buttery glory about to be absolutely destroyed. Even this is a beautiful sight to behold!
Today I ate Santa's Hat
with Coconut sponge, strawberry mousseline and lychee jelly
I'll be honest, I'm not one to celebrate Christmas as intensely as everyone else; for example I don't do fairy lights, tinsel, or get a tree; I don't even like doing Secret Santas because then I'm obligated to buy a horribly cheap present that will get thrown away by the New Year.
However, I do like cake, especially cake that looks like a Santa Hat. Come on, how cute is that?!
And now, let me eat cake!
