BREAKFAST HEAVEN @ Single O, Surry Hills, Sydney, AUS
Today is (my) weekend which means I didn't have to get up early for work!
Unfortunately, Mr. Cardigan has been feeling under the weather with laryngitis, so he's taken the past few days off work for recovery. However, since this barista and the IT guy rarely get a day off together, we decided to have a breakfast date in good old Surry Hills.
Today we ate at Single O
This place is great for anyone who's after a great cup of coffee - however you take your brew. Single O also have good food for appetites of all sizes, and a liking for friendly staff who are always up for conversation about anything and everything.
The decor is not dissimilar to the vibe, with parachuting soldiers on the ceiling and the hand-written notes on all the branding, there's a story and humour injected everywhere, right from the menu's glossary to the Single O dogbowl...
Today we drank black coffee from Ethiopia
Both of us had black coffee this morning, both from Ethiopia. I had a filter and he had a long black. Great brew, will definitely come here again if just for the a coffee!
Today Mr. Cardi ate the Bacon Roll with Red-eye Chilli Mayo, Fried Egg, and Tomato Apple Ketchup
There's something charming about chilli and eggs, don't ya think? Well, bacon and eggs is a meal you cannot beat unless it's got chilli mayo slathered all over it!
Today I ate The Mothership Bowl with Poached Eggs, Avocado, Mushroom, Roast Pumpkin, Fermented Red Cabbage, Kale, Tumeric Cashew Cheese, Mixed Grains, and Hazelnut Dukkha
Eggs? Avocado? Mushrooms? YES! Next thing I knew I was given the healthiest breakfast on the planet. Even right now as I'm writing this five hours later, I'm still running on that cabbage and quinoa.
Today we also ate an Almond Croissant
Enough healthy eating for some morning! We treated ourselves with a delicious delight from the cruel display of devilish treats at the Single O counter, namely this funny-shaped almond croissant... Is it just me or does it look kind of like a seahorse?
Croissants from Penny Fours
Curious about where they source their pleasant pastries, my inquiry led me to Penny Fours, a bakery that is said to be slightly eccentric, a little traditional, very charming, and croissants which are "the real deal and the good s#*%!"
I think Mr. Cardi's laryngitis will be just fine by tomorrow :)
And that, my friends, is how I spent my "Saturday" morning, with great coffee, great food, and my greatest love.
