QUBE CAFE | ULTIMO, SYDNEY | SUMMER 2018 | BY INVITATION (GET SOCIAL PR)
There’s always a time and a place to eat, however, there must also be times to stop and let your camera eat for 3+ hours. That place is called QUBE, and time and time again my camera and I find ourselves starving for more…
This summer, we have specials on the board, plus the highly anticipated Black Sesame French Toast is back!
For those of you who have read far back, you will know that my journey into photography really took off at QUBE.
For those who don’t know, it is where I met a great and dear friend of mine, @lazypandaishungry for the first time, and our Instagram game has been going up ever since.
So in a way, this cafe means something truly special to us, because it helped launch our accounts and improved our photography.
Anyway, lets eat!
SPECIAL: BLACK SESAME AFFOGATO
Hands up if you dessert first; you can totally have it for breakfast if there’s coffee in it!
The strength of an espresso paired with the rich flavours of Black Sesame is a winner indeed.
IT’S BACK! BLACK SESAME FRENCH TOAST
We are back and black, baby!
Qube’s long awaited return of the Black Sesame french toast had bloggers eagerly anticipating their invitation in the mail; for sure I was one of them who counted down the days.
However, I would PAY to have this.
It is an absolute stunner.
Seriously, it deserves its own Instagram page.
Taste-wise: Fabulous, as expected. The sweetness of the toast is balanced with the fruits and the richness of the black sesame ice-cream. The black sesame sauce, is also not overly sweet. Well done, another great crowd pleasing dessert.
LUNCH SPECIAL: TUNA TATAKI
An elegant dish that is almost too beautiful to demolish, until you start and you won’t stop.
The grain rice is not as dense as it appears, and compliments nicely with the lightness of the tuna, soft-boiled eggs and avocado. Not pictured in the photo are dressings that bring it altogether.
SPECIAL: SCRAMBLED SOFT SHELL CRAB ON CROISSANT
One of my favourite combinations: crab, soft scrambled eggs and a crispy croissant.
The crab was battered nicely, just enough to cover the crab and not too much that the meat was lost.
The eggs were cooked perfectly, even after hours of photgraphy they were still fluffy on the inside.
The croissant surprisingly stayed crispy and flaky; sign of a good baker.
I took the liberty of stacking it, just for fun.
I wonder if they approve? :)
SPECIAL: CHILLI PULLED PORK TACOS
Tacos is synonymous with summertime; a plate of tacos with a glass of beer, sounds like summer nights to me.
Like all things, not everything can be perfect. The meat lacked seasoning and was a bit on the dry side despite the sauce. I had this dish hot & cold, and both times were the same.
THE CLASSICS: EGYPTIAN ICED TEA
When I first came to QUBE almost a year ago, they were doing an Complimentary Iced Tea per visit. If not for this marketing tactic, I would have never found my favourite Iced Tea in Sydney.
It is sweet enough to be considered an Iced Tea, but is actually quite mild and less on the sugary side than expected.
I would go so far to say that your summer brunch at Qube would be incomplete without one!
POMEGRANATE ICED TEA
For those who prefer the sweeter side of life, I recommend their Iced Tea by the glass. They have a range of flavours including Peach, Lemon & Mango, and you can even make it sparkling - how fancy!
QUBE BENEDICT WITH SALMON (OR BACON SPECK)
Another absolute classic. I actually prefer this with Bacon Speck (pictured below), but salmon is also delicious.
The brioche toast is a thick cut, but it’s always fresh, light and gives the dish a slightly sweet touch along with the rich hollandise and creamy soft poached eggs.
The Broccollini, whilst does nothing for me, gives the dish a vibrant green colour.
My favourite part about this dish though, is the hash brown! Give me hash brown on anything and suddenly it’s my new favourite.
QUBE BENEDICT WITH BACON SPECK
Check out this beautiful slice of bacon… I’m in drool-town.
Another oldie, but a goodie.
I know I keep mentioning the word “favourite” a lot, but I’m truly serious; the Granola here is one of my favourites.
Maybe it’s the toasty granola, or maybe it’s the great selection of fresh fruit. No, wait, it’s definitely the Chia Pudding.
Or maybe it’s just QUBE.
