"Seven Seeds takes its name from the precious cargo which Baba Budan smuggled out of Yemen and into India during the 17th century. By strapping seven seeds of fertile coffee to his waist, Brother Budan broke through the tightly regulated system which had, until then, kept coffee cultivation within the confines of the Arabic world. Because of Baba Budan and his determination to spread coffee around the world, we are now able to source beans from the Americas, Africa and Asia."
- Seven Seeds Specialty Coffee Roasters
Hello and good morning!
It's my third day here in Melbourne and so far I've had such an amazing time in this gorgeous city. There is so much culture, so many things to do, and so much delicious food and great coffee to sample; and Seven Seeds Specialty Coffee is no exception.
What looks quiet from the outside is actually very busy and bustling on the inside. This place is incredibly popular, especially for students, but there's always room for more, even if we have to share a bench, which is just fine by me!
But first coffee.
The Seven Seeds brew is quite popular in Sydney, and many baristas and customers alike swear by the bean. Today I am fortunate to be here to try their filters by the source. Their batch today came from Kenya, with tasting notes of Cola, Plum, and Honey. Unlike other Kenyan coffee I've had, this one very aromatic and sweet, not much body like I'm used to but very tasty and flavourful. And despite many recent comments on various review sites about their coffee not being strong enough, THIS IS A LIE! Seven Seeds espresso is strong and mighty! I took one sip from Mr. Cardigan's long black and it almost knocked me right back!!!
Today I ate the Eggs and Waffle Benedict.
It was nice change from sugary hotcakes and croissants over the last couple days, and I was really feeling something savoury.
The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the waffles had strings of delicious pulled pork and cheese cooked into the batter. But the best part was the chipotle hollandaise, seriously! It's got the right amount of spice and hotness that perfectly compliments the dish in its entirety.
Overall, the best breakfast I've had in Melbourne to date :D
Mr. Cardi's Breakfast Burger with housemade chorizo, cheddar, fried egg, chilli pepper chutney, and spring onion inside a pain de mie roll was also great. So simple but very delicious. And I absolutely love soft fried eggs, and when the yolk runs all over the plate. *drool*
Highly recommend breakfast and coffee from Seven Seeds. If you like your coffee strong, have it black. I'm sure I'll be back to try more the next time I'm in town.
