Take a Bite at A Bite of My Shanghai
Photography and Review by @kerabeareats
As an Asian woman having grown up with lots of Western cuisine, my taste buds have become accustomed to many flavours from East to West. While I love the traditional taste of Chinese street food, I also adore Western cuisine, and it’s great to see places to do the best of both. A Bite of New Shanghai is really the best of both world: it’s traditional Chinese food with a unique Aussie twist. There are traditional Chinese dishes like jellyfish, but also Aussie inspired dishes like beef coated in tomato sauce.
Eastwood is a fair distance to travel for me, as I am city based and Eastwood is quite the drive North West. Incidentally this was also the first time I had been to this suburb, so you can imagine my surprise reaction to such a vibrant Asian community. Based on the Saturday festivities happening, and the language I heard spoken, my guess it this place has a rich Chinese population - the food HAS to be good!
On the menu tonight: Stir Fried Wagyu Beef with water chestnuts in special sauce; Tomato sauce beef; Xiao Long Bao; Pan Fried Pork Bun with Teriyaki Eel; Spicy jellyfish, radish and special sauce; Sour and spicy beef soup; Stir Fried Pork Belly in Shogayaki Sauce; Stir Fried Organic Cauliflower in spicy sauce; Rose flavour sweet and sour fish; Spicy chicken.
For the record, there is nothing I didn’t like. In fact, I LOVED everything especially these: XLB flavour perfect, spicy chicken just enough spice so I could still taste it, the soup addictive, and the tomato sauce beef is amazing.
