Done a Little Different at Four Little Foxes.
Photography and Review by @kerabeareats
It is cafes like Four Little Foxes that really reaffirm my belief that good food and coffee, great hospitality and amazing staff are all that is needed to allow a business to thrive. I travelled out to Milperra (from my urban jungle estate) to meet Maia and Nathan - a young couple with a passion for flavour and community. This is not a run-of-the-mill cafe out in the burbs; it’s the stuff you love to eat, but done differently.
First up: Blueberry and White Chocolate Hot Cakes, with black currents, dried figs and crushed pecans topped with salted caramel cream cheese and house made meringue served with a side of maple infused milk.
Sure, it’s not hard to find a decent hotcake in the city, but you won’t find a hotcake like this. The bottom of the hotcake had a delicate crisp, and the milk syrup provided just the right amount of sweetness. Also, whoever thought of the salted caramel is absolute genius.
Next: Veggie and Cheese Fritters, served with a green leaf salad with tomato chutney and pickled cabbage hummus topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce
Another common cafe dish, done right. My favourite aspect of this dish was the combination of flavours that hit all the spots: the richness of the egg and hollandaise, the sweetness of the chutney, and the tang of the pickled cabbage - amazing combination, highly recommend.
Double Cheddar Beef Burger, smoked with crispy maple bacon with house made pickle cucumber lettuce left and cheddar cheese topped with slow cooked tomato relish and Deluca Sweet Spot mayonnaise.
Burger lovers you NEED to try this, and I’m not even going to spoil this one for you except… Have you ever wondered what coffee mayonnaise tastes like? Don’t forget to add the jalapenos ;)
By the way, this cafe was busy the whole time I was there. What does that tell you?
