Not much from the outside, it’s what is inside that counts. Located across the street from the Redfern train station, you will find this gem - surprisingly modern, unsurprisingly delicious coffee, and inventive dishes made for the gram but also tasty too.
The new Gibbon’s Street specials include:
A Little Bit Shellfish with Pipis and baby scallops w/ squid ink pasta, chilli jam and fresh chilies.
The Waffle-on with with honeydew, rockmelon and watermelon balls. Finished with ice cream and mixed fruit coulis.
The Dark Night hot cakes w/ chocolate mousse, fresh raspberries, mascarpone, rhubarb compote and maple syrup.
My favourite was A Little Bit Shellfish, and not just because I am a savoury girl. I enjoyed the richness of the pasta, complimented by the spice. The Waffle On was also nice, with the fruit being quite refreshing. The pancakes look as fluffy as they feel, though the mousse was my favourite part of the dish. If you happen to stumble upon this cafe, and you feel like food + photo, this is just your kind of place.
Other awesome aspects you may like:
Great service, a hello at the door; nice open space, great for working or reading; perfectly crafted coffee. Restrooms off the premise but in the building, parking on street, located conveniently by the Redfern train station.
