Japanese Street Food Cafe in Sydney.
Japanese food is the cuisine that IF I had to eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be it. Why? It’s fresh, it’s simple, and the “umami” is the best thing that sets it apart.
I used to walk past Ippuku everyday on the way to work for several months. I never ventured inside, and regretfully so - this place is actually AWESOME. Owned by passionate owners Josh and Arisa, this Japanese cafe is inspired by the street eats of Osaka. Paired with the talents of vertically gifted Tom behind the counter and coffee machine, Ippuku has all the qualities of my ideal eatery - everything is honest, authentic, from the heart, and done right.
Tofu Balls made of tofu, shittake mushrooms, ginger, garlic and edamame, poached egg and organic red quinoa, crispy kale, smashed avocado, BBQ grilled broccolini and harissa yoghurt dressing - this dish could make me LOVE tofu, it’s so delicious! I can see any vegetarian going completely NUTS over this dish. Highly recommended even if you’re not.
Osaka Sando with Pork loin, lettuce, tomato and special Ippuku sauce. This reminded me of a BLT, but I will call it the PLT ;)
Ippuku Reuben Sandwich with Chashu pork, sauerkraut, cheddar cheese, mustard, pickles on toasted sourdough. OMG OMG OMG this is actually my new favourite sandwich and I cannot recommend this enough. If you love chashu pork and cheese you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this.
Nippon Poke Bowl with Atlantic Salmon, seasoned sushi rice, toasted sesame seeds, crispy kale, cucumber, edamame, pickled vegetables and shiso. I’m a huge fan of poke bowls and I am a big fan of this one. Definitely recommend!
Spicy Pork Belly Ramen with wombok, chive, garlic and seasoned egg. This is a special right now but OMG its amazing! Seriously addictive and my second favourite next to the Reuben.
Wagyu Beef Burger with lettuce, tomato, beetroot, cheddar cheese and Ippuku sauce. Can’t go wrong with a simple, delicious burger.
Gyozas and Karaage - needs no explanation except they were DELICIOUS.
If you work or live in Rosebery, and you love Japanese street food, I highly suggest you try this place. So happy to know there’s good ramen and sandwiches near my place. 10/10!
