What’s MINE is YOURS at Speedos Cafe.
This super cute rustic cafe in North Bondi is always busy, and there’s a good reason for it. Besides being right by the beach, there’s great coffee, delicious food for the hungry, the gluttonous, and healthy conscious, and the portions are so generous you can almost share everything.
First we start with the gluttonous...
Caramelised Banana + Chia VEGAN pancakes with poached berries, pistachio crumble, maple
Quite possibly the most Instagrammable stack in Sydney, the Speedos Pancake stack can feed 2 if not more people. Cut through the pancake and you will find thin slices of fruit with the skin on; don’t worry it’s supposed to be there; initially I was put off by this, but then when I ate it with the maple syrup, I soon realised the bitterness is meant to cut through the sweetness.
The Frenchie - cornflake crusted brioche, white chocolate confetti, vanilla custard, seasonal fruit, berries, pistachio crumble, lime mascarpone, maple
Another extremely colourful dish, super crunchy, creamy and sweet white chocolate confetti offset by the acidity of the fresh fruit.
Oishii Ramen Soup with pulled chicken, noodles, ramen egg, wakame, tri mushroom, ginger, soy, coriander + chilli, sesame
Not normally do I order ramen at a cafe, however I figure that a healthy cafe in Bondi would get the flavours right. I’ve had this dish twice now and ifs one of my favourites. It’s nothing like a traditional ramen from Japan, but still tasty.
Seared salmon fillet with black rice, raw asian greens, eshallot, pomegranate, carrot puree, smashed black bean, miso
My NEW favourite. A dish I can easily clean my plate with. The salmon is perfectly cooked, still translucent on the center, but the stand out is what is underneath, and is just as tasty as the salmon on top - if not better...
Morrocan Spiced Lamb with baba ganoush, lime yoghurt, cauliflower, pumpkin, eggplant, zucchini, kale
A salad I can definitely make friends with. The lamb is coated with a generous amount of spices, and goes well with the ingredients of the salad.
Service: great, everyone is lovely.
Cleanliness and hygiene: clean, and there are restrooms inside.
Accessibility: a bit hard to get to without a car, parking nearby but quite pricey, there is a bus and stops down the road.
Quality of food compared to other cafes in the area: definitely some of the best.
Price: good value considering serving size and being in North Bondi.
Would I recommend? Yes, if you are in North Bondi, or if you’d like to get a gram of those pancakes.
